Server Colocation the Best Service to Entrepreneurs

When we talk about server colocation, the first question that comes in the mind is as to what exactly server colocation is? There are many small companies and internet based entrepreneurs that require many people to visit their websites for their business to be successful.

However, it becomes an issue for such companies to handle the net traffic of the total number of people accessing their sites since they start out with basic servers that are capable of handling only a limited traffic. Also the bandwidth that such companies start out with is also is bit limited in nature. So what do such companies need to do to ensure that more people access their pages, purchase products from their sites which of course has ads to other products without the need to pay for huge bandwidth fees or acquiring domains, well this is exactly where it comes into the big picture.

It is basically a form of renting out a particular service provider to ensure smooth functioning of the website without paying up for huge costs. What happens in colocation is that a particular company stores all of its sensitive data other such stuff downloadable onto a server and entrust that server to a server colocation provider who install it onto one of their racks. at how is all this beneficial to the company that opts for colocation? First the company ends up paying only the hosting fees to the colocation provider thereby cutting down the cost that would have been required for the web hosting. Second; it also helps to cut down the costs for operating the website since the bandwidth is actually being shared.

But like every other service, even this service has also has its disadvantages. The problem in this service is that when the client company requires an upgrade to its servers it has to make sure that the collocated servers are also running on the same upgraded software /operating system. This is a disadvantage since the collocated servers are physically present at a totally different location.

However considering all the advantages it provides to small companies/web based entrepreneurs. It easily outweighs its disadvantages.

There are many other advantages of server colocation. The most important is the reduction in downtime of the website. Since the colocation provider usually have options for backup power, to ensure that the client companies' server that they have on their rack does not go down. Other advantages of server colocation are security, cost effectiveness as well as traffic management.
